The Yoga Channel is an Accredited Yoga Alliance School Since 2004

The Yoga Channel Teacher Training is about:

  • Educating those who wish to become yoga instructors.
  • Spiritual awareness through meditation
  • Body awareness through safety techniques
  • Proper alignment in asanas
  • Personal growth and development into the essence of yoga consciousness.

The teacher training will be taught at The Yoga Channel studio at Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard.

Training will take place on selected weekends over a seven month period.

This training is for yoga teachers and students who want to deepen their knowledge of yoga and expand their teaching skills. It is also for advancing students of yoga who may like to become teachers or to strengthen their own practice through in-depth study.

This seven month teacher training course consists of approximately 200 hours. The syllabus follows the guidelines that the Yoga Alliance requires for attendees to be registered at the 200 hour level as a yoga instructor.

The training will consist of the scheduled teaching seminars, teaching workshops, assisting in regularly scheduled classes, monthly semi-privates with fellow teacher trainers and scheduled practice sessions.

Students are required to have a least two year’s continuous yoga experience and have regularly attended classes an average of twice per week.

 SYLLABUS

Techniques (100 hours)
Includes asanas, pranayama, kriyas, chanting and meditation.
Physical alignment, Injury prevention and treatment, Adapting the pose to special needs, Use of props, Sequencing of poses, sanskrit names of the poses.

Teaching Methodology (25 hours)
Principles of demonstration, observation, assisting/correcting, instruction, teaching styles, qualities of a Teacher, and the student’s process of learning.
What makes a good teacher, class structure, sequencing, variety and timing of poses, safe teaching, touch , adjustments, use of voice and choice/amount of words, body language, teacher/student relationships.

Anatomy & Physiology (20 hours)
Includes both physical Anatomy and Physiology (bodily systems, organs, etc.) and astral/energy/subtle Anatomy and Physiology (chakras, nadis, ets.)
How yoga influences the various systems of the body, study of the muscles, nerves and vital organs.

Philosophy/Ethics/Lifestyle (30 hours)
Study of Yoga Scriptures (Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, etc.), ethics for Yoga Teachers, etc.

History, Eight Limbs of Yoga, Yoga Sutras.

Practicum Hours  (10 HOURS)
Includes practice teaching, receiving feedback, observing others teaching and hearing/giving feedback.  Also includes assisting students while someone else is teaching.

 

Maribeth Hammond E-R.Y.T. 500 is Director of the yoga channel @ Silver Strand Beach in Oxnard, CA.  She has been studying and teaching yoga since 1983.  She is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level,recognized for over 17,500 hours of instruction.  She holds stress reduction and wellness contracts with Ventura County for the past eight years.  She also teaches privately.
